The Model
The scale 1:5 gives a reasonable big airplane, but small enough to transport in a car, easy to assemble at the airfield and above all, quite forgiving in the air.
The airplane comes with the landing gear attached and it remains only to push the stabilizer in place and attach the and the rudder, control wires to the rudder and elevator horns. The stabilizer and fin are supported by wires as by the full scale prototype on the sides and the wing supporting wires attached with the kwick links ”turnbuckles”. It may be necessary to adjust the tension of the wires.

Blackburn type D, 1912
Robert Blackburn was one of the British pioneers designing and building airplanes. His first machine to fly successfully from the sands in Filey was in 1910. Several developments followed in the next years and the designs were aerodynamically cleaned up.
In February 1913 he built one aeroplane for Cyril Foggin. This aircraft is now preserved in flying condition by the Shuttleworth Collection in Old Warden Aerodrome, Biggleswade, England. Every summer, weather permitting, this original bird takes to the air and performs flawlessly.
Richard Shuttleworth, the founder of this collection of magnificent old aircraft, found this specimen in a haystack in 1937 and aquired it for his collection. The restoration was not finished until 1949. In 1985 the aircraft was entirely re-covered and some previous mistakes were corrected. This is the oldest
original British aircraft still flying anywhere in the world.
